CreaturesThe hardest part of working on this project was coming up with unique, organic sounds for its multitude of magical creatures. Pictured on the right is a singing bird-monkey hybrid that I had to design sounds for. It took a couple of reworks to get right.
I initially tried to use a wooden recorder as the base for this "singing" monkey to emulate the natural calls of gibbons. Unfortunately, this didn't work out well and sounded too wood-y. I then attempted to use my voice to emulate monkeys and then pitch up the assets afterwards. This worked much better thankfully. I used this process for the rest of the assets we needed for this magical monkey, as well as most of the other creatures we created. |
Before this project, I had never used FMOD before. Now, I consider myself fairly skilled at it. I've implemented footstep switches and ambiances as well as other miscellaneous sound effects with the help of our audio lead. In addition, our audio team took a trip to the USC Foley room and utilized it to great effect for our footstep system. We also used it to create sounds for climbing and our creature footsteps.
